The Musings of Geoffrey Rose, Ph.D.

“When You Reach the End of Your Rope, Let Go!”
The road back to your actual, happy, healthy “Self” — the individual, idiosyncratic you that still longs to be recognized, welcomed, and celebrated — is a journey that should be far more adventurous than arduous. As ironic as it may seem and as far away from your goal as you may now feel, you have never left the “place” you seek. Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, your “somewhere over the rainbow place” has been in your backyard all along.
What may seem even more fantastic than the analogy this powerful metaphysical children’s story provides, is the realization that this “over the rainbow place” actually lies within you, that it is, in fact, you.
The “road” home to yourself only seems to wander endlessly hither and yon as you stagger side-to-side, lost within your beliefs and emotions. One reason you probably “misplaced” yourself was because your parents wielded enormous influence over you — their collective voice drowning out the sound of your own. That is natural.
But if you consciously or subconsciously continue to buy into your parent-driven self-limiting concepts or create new beliefs through an unconscious filtering of that which does not fit your old established status quo “reality,” you are doomed to suffer prejudicial and predictable results endlessly.
This dislocation from yourself — leading to disorientation, the acceptance of blame, and the abandonment of your worth — is the beginning of the end of any hope that you may ever have had for personal happiness. Your parents, indeed, would have seemed all great and powerful to your young, inexperienced eyes, ears, and heart (much like the Wizard himself). So why don’t you chalk the whole thing up to an honest mistake and get on with the business of self-reparation?
This energetic “place” is the land of make-believe, where only those who consciously create their reality may enter. It is the world of “Om,” the sound used in contemplating the ultimate Truth through meditation. It would be best if you were very still, though it is within and around you every moment—entrance to this enchanting kingdom, or queendom, must await your turning the esoteric keys of self-recognition, self-acceptance, and self-transcendence.
You have the power to affect enormous change in your world, to wield far more significant influence over your destiny than any other person who has ever lived (parent, wizard, or otherwise). Your potential is immense, but your power is only yours if you accept it. Now is the time to wake up and take advantage of your substantial, albeit conditional, gifts.
